About the service

Parents First is a psychology-led service. We deliver personalised parenting interventions within the home, community venue, or virtually (by phone or video call). We are a team with a wealth of experience in working with parents and carers, children and young people and we undertake regular training to help us in our work.

Your views help us deliver a personalised service that meets the need of your family.

Family having a talk with an advisor

What is covered

Using our knowledge and understanding of psychology, we can work with you on a range of issues that may be affecting your family life.

You may want to work with us on:

  • Understanding and responding to your child’s behaviour,
  • Developing your relationship with your child, or
  • Understanding your child’s development.

Practical information

We will start by visiting or arranging to speak with you, to get to know more about you and your family. Every family is unique, so this is a chance for us to get to know you and for you to find out more about us.

If you wish to work with us, you can tell us about any changes you would like to make, and we can decide together on what the focus of our work will be.

We may also wish to talk with your child’s school, or other people working with you to help us understand your family.

The parenting practitioners in the team will carry out these weekly visits with you. The psychologists in the team will help to plan and oversee the work.

We will ask you to complete a short questionnaire before and after our work together. You will also receive a written record of the work we complete with you. You can share this information with anyone who you think might find it helpful.

We are not qualified to offer medical advice, and we are not a mental health service. Please talk to your GP about your own or your child’s physical or mental health needs.
