About the service
Children are rewarding, stimulating and fun, but looking after them can be stressful and challenging. The Nurturing Programme helps deal with those challenges so that you can have a calmer, happier family life. It aims to help adults understand and manage feelings and behaviour. It is a tried and tested programme that helps us think about what we do, why we do it and how it makes us feel.

What is covered
- Understanding why children behave the way they do.
- Recognising the feelings behind behaviours (ours and theirs).
- Exploring different approaches to discipline.
- Finding ways to develop co-operation and self-discipline in children.
- The importance of looking after and nurturing ourselves.
Practical information
We can work with you in a group or individually either online or face-to-face.
There is a break in each session.
You are welcome to come to sessions on your own or with a partner or another relative that supports you in your care and the care of your child.
We recommend that you come to all the sessions as the programme fits together like a puzzle.
The programme is delivered in an informal style with a group of approximately 10 parents.
You will be given a Parenting Puzzle book and other materials to support your learning.
Parents and carers participating in this group can complete an AGORED accreditation at Level 1, if you want.
If you attend a face-to-face group, we provide a crèche which is run by qualified staff.
The programme is delivered by fully trained practitioners from Cardiff Parenting Services who see you as the expert on your own child. The sessions are intended to be interactive.
Parent Nurturing Programme has also been tailored for parents who have children with disabilities or additional needs.
