About the programme

Early Positive Approaches to Support is a programme for families raising a young child (5 years and under) where developmental delay and or learning disability has been suggested or confirmed.

Children with learning and/or developmental disabilities have a range of needs and everyday living challenges. Most families need some support to fully understand their children’s needs.

Family carers report that raising a child with a learning and/or developmental disability can affect their own wellbeing. E-PAtS has been developed by family carers working alongside professionals.

Participants have described improved wellbeing after attending the sessions. It encouraged people to take time for themselves and recognise their own needs.

As well as helping participants feel not so alone, they were able to take home strategies for assisting with living skills. They reported increased confidence in understanding and dealing with their child’s behaviours as well as advocating for their child to medical professionals.
