About the course

This 90-minute course introduces practitioners to the Early Childhood Play, Learning and Care (ECPLC) plan, a national vision for ensuring babies and young children (0–5) grow, learn and flourish in happy, safe and stimulating environments. At its heart is the principle that every child is unique — developing at their own pace, shaped by relationships, experiences, and surroundings.

Through discussion and reflection, practitioners will explore how the ECPLC supports high-quality practice by focusing on:
• The Unique Child – recognising individuality, rights, and holistic development.
• The Quality Framework – three measures of quality: enabling adults, engaging experiences, and effective environments.
• Practice in Action – observation, planning, schema play, and brain development, drawing on both new and established theories.
• Equity and Inclusion – ensuring all children, regardless of background or ability, have equal opportunities to thrive.

By the end of the session, practitioners will:
• Understand the core aims and vision of ECPLC.
• Be able to identify what high-quality provision looks like in their setting.
• Reflect on their own role as an enabling adult shaping lifelong outcomes for children.
